(2) Why does the postmaster send money to Lencho? Why does he sign the letter ‘God’?

Thinking About The Text Extra Questions:(A Letter to God Extra Questions with Answer Best Practices)
1. How does the story “A Letter to God” show the deep faith of a farmer in God?
Answer: The story shows that Lencho, though poor and simple, had unshakable faith in God. When his entire crop was destroyed by hail, he did not lose hope. He believed God would surely help him and so he wrote a letter asking for one hundred pesos. Even when he received only seventy pesos, he did not doubt God, but thought the post office employees had stolen the rest. His blind faith is both touching and innocent.
2. What role does the postmaster play in the story?
Answer: The postmaster is an important character. At first, he laughed when he saw Lencho’s letter, but soon he was moved by Lencho’s strong faith. He collected money from his staff, friends, and even gave from his own salary to help Lencho. Though Lencho misunderstood him later, the postmaster showed kindness, humanity, and respect for Lencho’s belief in God.
3. Do you think Lencho was right in calling the post office employees “a bunch of crooks”? Why/Why not?
Answer: No, Lencho was not right. The post office employees were actually kind and generous. They gave him money to help in his time of need. But Lencho was so blind in his faith that he could not think that human beings had helped him. He believed only God had sent the money and thought the rest was stolen. This shows his innocence and lack of understanding, but not the truth of the situation.
4. What is the message of the story “A Letter to God”?
Answer: The story gives us two important messages. First, it shows that strong faith can give people hope even in the worst situations. Lencho never gave up because he trusted God. Second, it shows human kindness and generosity. The postmaster and his staff worked together to help a poor farmer. But the story also tells us that blind faith can sometimes make people misunderstand reality.
5. How does the story bring out the conflict between faith and reality?
Answer: Lencho’s faith in God was so strong that he believed only God could save him. In reality, it was the postmaster and other people who helped by sending him money. Lencho failed to see this truth and thought the post office employees had stolen the money. This shows the conflict between what people believe through faith and what actually happens in reality.
