Clouds Summary in English
The tale “Clouds” depicts the adventures of a little boy who goes out on a quest for the clouds, having noticed that they had totally vanished from the atmosphere. One day he puts the same question to his mother: “Where have the clouds gone?” but she dismisses him considering the question to be nonsensical, and off to school he goes. The little boy is not able to stop his thoughts revolving around the clouds.
He recalls that he had seen them the night before, they were dark, dense, and full of thunder with rain as the only expectation. However, when he opened his eyes in the morning, the sky was blue, and there was not even a single drop of rain on the ground.
Motivated by disappointment and curiosity, he goes to find the clouds that have gone missing. During his trip he comes across a grasscutter and a farmer, he questions them both about the clouds but to his disgrace, none of them gets his query. He continues to walk in the scorching sun, feeling thirsty and exhausted until he reaches a shady spot under a tree next to a Persian wheel. There he again encounters an old man and, asking him the same question, the poor boy has to suffer the same words from the old man.
The old man says that when the clouds arrive, both the earth and the sky are aware of their coming. Then he tells the boy that he once lived in a drought-hit area where no rain fell for ten years and he gives a hint of how valuable rain can be.
The boy is an attentive listener but before the old man is finished, he begins to comprehend how late it really is and therefore retraces his steps. During the return trip, he perceives the air to be cooler and the soil to be moist. Upon arrival in his village, he finds everything looking fresh, as if washed, the rain has come while he was out. Trees are clean, roads are wet, and his mom is thanking God for the blessing of rain.
Under the jamun tree in his courtyard, he gets the raindrops on his face and enjoys the moment of bliss even though there is a tinge of sadness. During the whole day’s search for the clouds and sometimes there were, they had come, poured and gone, just when he wasn’t there to witness them.

Activity 3: (Clouds Question Answer Class 8 English)
Answer the following question :
“But no one could give him a satisfactory answer” – Why do you think no one could give him a satisfactory answer?
Answer:
No one could give him a satisfactory answer because the people he asked – the grass-cutter, the farmer, and others – did not understand what he really meant. For them, clouds were just a common part of nature, not something to be searched for or questioned about. But for the boy, the clouds had a special meaning – he was curious and deeply felt their absence. Since others did not share his feelings or imagination, they couldn’t understand his question and therefore couldn’t give him a proper answer.
