Princess September Summary Class 8 in English
In the tale of Princess September, the protagonist is a very lonely princess who gradually accepts a tiny bird as her source of consolation. A very small bird enters while she is sobbing in her chamber and sings a lovely song narrating the king’s garden, the lake, and the willow trees. Thus, the princess’ mood lightens up and she requests the bird to be her companion. The bird agrees, sings different songs according to the day of the month, and becomes the special friend of September.
The jealousy among the other princesses increases, and they propose that the bird should be kept in a cage to be safe. September, fearing that the bird might either abandon her or love someone else, puts him in a cage made of gold. Initially, the bird is good, eats, and sleeps, but soon he ceases to sing. Not even when September carries the cage to the lake and shows the trees and fields to the bird, is it the same – everything looks different through the bars.
One day, the bird pretends to be dead. September weeps and understands that the bird is not able to survive without freedom. The bird says that he cannot sing if he is not free. September feels ashamed, and she gives up her claim, and to her surprise, the bird says it will come back to sing for her. So, the princess leaves her window open for the bird to come and go as he pleases.
