Someone Poem Question Answer Solutions | Class 8 English Lesson 12 Question Answer | WBBSE

In his poem “Someone,” Walter de la Mare presents a night full of mystery and silence during which the speaker hears a knock at his tiny door. The speaker, who is curious and somewhat frightened, listens intently, opens the door, and peeks to the left and the right. Yet, there is no one there-only the still night filled with nature noises.

The beetle is tapping the wall, the screech-owl is calling from the woods, and the cricket is softly whistling, producing a kind of a lullaby as the dewdrops are falling. In a way, the speaker is left in the dark as to who was the one that knocked. The poem does a wonderful job of conveying to the reader the mystery, silence, and solitude of the night, thus implanting a feeling of curiosity and fantasy in one’s mind.

Someone came knocking At my wee, small door; Someone came knocking; I’m sure-sure-sure; I listened, I opened, I looked to left and right, But nought there was a stirring In the still, dark night; Only the busy beetle Tap-tapping in the wall, Only from the forest The screech-owl’s call, Only the cricket whistling While the dewdrops fall, So I know not who came knocking, At all, at all, at all.

Last month, I spent a moonlit night in a small forest guest house. The surroundings were calm and peaceful, and the silver moonlight made the forest look magical. As I sat by the window, I heard the soft rustle of leaves, the hooting of an owl, and the distant cry of a night bird. Now and then, a cricket chirped, and the wind whispered through the trees. It was both a little scary and wonderfully soothing, a night I will never forget.

I am an owl, the silent hunter of the night. When the world sleeps, I spread my wings and glide through the cool, moonlit air. The forest is my home, and the darkness is my friend. I sit high on a branch, watching everything with my sharp eyes. The rustle of leaves, the call of crickets, and the smell of the night make me feel alive. I hoot softly, proud to be the king of the peaceful, mysterious night.
