A King’s Tale Summary Class 8 in English
Many years ago, England was ruled by a kind and fair king named Uther Pendragon. After Uther’s demise, his wise advisors Merlin and Sir Ulfius covertly handed over the infant Arthur to Sir Ector, who would bring him up as his own. As Arthur matured, he turned into a brave, gentle, and good young man.
The king’s death left England in a power vacuum, and the barons continued to quarrel among themselves. Suddenly, a sword was found in a stone with an inscription saying, “The true king of England is the one who pulls out this sword.” A lot of people tried drawing the sword but in vain. When Arthur turned eighteen, he easily took out the sword and was proclaimed the king.
King Arthur was a ruler of great wisdom, and his reign brought peace and joy to the people of England. He was aided by Merlin, and so he defended the oppressed while conquering the wicked. On one occasion, he was given the enchanted sword Excalibur by a magical hand that surfaced from a lake. Arthur pledged that the sword would never be a tool for his selfish interests.
Subsequently, he took Lady Guinevere as his wife and established the legendary Round Table, where his fearless knights were seated together and they vowed to be the defenders of the weak and carry out the punishment of the wicked. While King Arthur ruled for a long time and happy years, the knightly adventures that once accompanied him to most of his knights’ deaths were tragedies that, as a consequence, he had to endure slaughter. Before dying, he instructed his knight to return Excalibur to the lake. A hand emerged and claimed it back. Then King Arthur, the people’s noble and beloved monarch, took a barge and went away to the sunset while they sadly whispered goodbye.
