Summer Friends Summary Class 8 in English
The poem “Summer Friends” makes a comparison between two types of friends through birds’ behavior. Swallow is a bird that comes only during the warm summer days, singing merrily but gone as soon as the winter comes. This bird symbolizes those friends who are nice and nice when everything is right but vanish when troubles set in.
In contrast, the Sparrow is always near to people even in the coldest and most brutal winter. It is a symbol of true friendship that is always there no matter how hard it gets.
The last stanza has the poet declaring that he would choose a friend of the type of the Sparrow – the one who at his side in both happiness and sorrow, who keeps on loving no matter what.
